Director: Anthony Maniscalco, Ph.D.

Anthony Maniscalco was named director in 2001. He holds an MA, M. Phil, and Ph.D. in political science. His dissertation examines contests over public space and free expression on commercial property. He has taught politics at several colleges and has served as campus faculty coordinator of the Government and Public Affairs Internship Seminar at Hunter College, Brooklyn College and John Jay College. He produces the CUNY Forum and has led two civic-engagement projects: the Model New York State Senate Session Project and the Model New York City Council Project. He lives in Brooklyn.

Assistant Director: Ernesto Malavé Jr.

Ernesto Malavé has served as assistant director since 1998. A graduate of John Jay College of Criminal Justice, CUNY, he has also served as the administrative coordinator for the Model New York State Senate Session Project since 1998.

He is also currently the Director of Communications and External Relations for the International Puerto Rican Heritage Film Festival. He works closely with the Chief Executive Officer, serving as adviser and strategist, to guide the company’s public image and to build relationships that will develop IPRHFF for the long term.

Previously, he worked for El Puente, a youth and community development center, and New Visions High School in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, where he helped create and coordinate a new site in Bushwick, Brooklyn.
